Shotgun King is now available on mobile, offering its own unique spin on the age-old board game. It was developed by French studio Pancake Delicieux and was first released for PC players on Steam in 2022. It is offered by Plug In Digital on mobile.
Shotgun is king A roguelike turn-based strategy game
The game transforms traditional chess into something more solitary and aggressive. This removes all black pieces except the king and replaces the missing army with a pump shotgun.
Essentially, every black piece has moved to the white side, leaving behind a tyrannical black king whose workers now favor the more popular, nicer white king. Armed with a royal musket and a somewhat wounded pride, the lone king sets out to reclaim his kingdom at every destination.
Each turn forces a choice. You can either remove the king or shoot at the opposing piece. Shooting comes at a cost, as reloading requires movement on subsequent turns. After you act, the white pieces move together.
Avoiding checkmate is essential, but victory on each floor depends on eliminating the enemy king. The game introduces additional white pieces over time to make the challenge harder.
After completing a floor, you get two random upgrade combinations. Each pair provides an advantage with an upgrade for the opposing side. Progressing through the levels and avoiding trade-offs is the king’s attempt to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

On mobile, Shotgun King is available for $6.99. A few months ago, in December to be exact, the Epic Games Store was offering the game for free as part of its weekly freebies. This was a great opportunity to try out the game before making a full purchase.
